Abstract

The main objective of the Mnemosyne Digital Library of Rare and Forgotten Literary Texts (1868-1936) is to select, catalogue and make visible in digital format texts belonging to a forgotten repertoire in order to allow the historiographical review of what Dr. Ángela Ena calls “the Other Silver Age” (2013). The concepts ‘rare’, ‘curious’ or ‘forgotten’ are familiar to the literary historiography, but as far as we know, this is the first time that are applies to a repertoire of texts digitized, and with diverse genres and formats (books, newspapers and magazines). The task we have already completed is the Stage I, which is described in this chapter: A) Location of 247 male writers and 367 female writers whose works fit within these categories. B) Location in HathiTrust Digital Library of 3,876 works already digitised. C) Agreement of understanding with HathiTrust to have all those books in public access because they are Spanish heritage and should follow the Spanish copyright laws. D) Agreement of understanding with the Spanish National Library for the digitization of texts of the literary period that are in their funds. E) Outline of the metadata, taking into account the international standars. In the stages II and III this digital library will reach the goal of becoming a ‘smartlibrary’.
